FOB

FOB suits buyers who run their own freight and want to control the ocean leg themselves.

In short: FOB (Free On Board) means the exporter loads the goods onto the vessel, after which the buyer pays and bears risk for ocean freight and insurance.

FOB, or Free On Board, is an Incoterm under which the seller delivers the goods on board the vessel at the named port of shipment and clears them for export. From that point, cost and risk pass to the buyer, who arranges and pays for ocean freight, insurance and onward clearance at the destination.

For egg buyers, FOB is attractive when you already have competitive freight contracts or a nominated forwarder, because you capture the freight savings and control routing. It is quoted against a named Indian port, for example FOB Nhava Sheva, so both sides know where responsibility transfers. The trade-off is that you take on the ocean risk and the task of booking suitable reefer space at the agreed temperature. If you would rather we handle the freight to your port, CFR or CIF shifts that leg back to us.
