Shelf life

Shelf life decides how much selling time a buyer actually has once a container lands.

In short: Shelf life is how long eggs stay fit for sale; ours is 21 to 28 days ambient, or up to 45 days held at 5 to 8 degrees Celsius.

Shelf life is the period over which eggs remain fit for sale and consumption under stated storage conditions. It is not a single number: it depends heavily on temperature. Our table eggs carry a shelf life of 21 to 28 days at ambient temperature, extending to up to 45 days when held at 5 to 8 degrees Celsius, which is why the cold chain is so central to export.

For importers, shelf life is really about usable selling time at the far end. A long ocean lane consumes part of the window, so the fresher the eggs are at dispatch and the better the cold chain holds, the more days remain on the shelf. We ship at 78 to 90 Haugh units and maintain 5 to 8 degrees Celsius in transit precisely to protect that remaining life. Buyers planning turnover should factor transit days into their shelf-life calculation and specify the storage temperature their own supply chain will maintain.
