Master carton

The master carton is the unit everything in an egg shipment is counted and loaded in.

In short: A master carton is the export shipping carton of 360 eggs, made up of 12 moulded trays of 30 eggs each.

The master carton is the outer shipping box used to export table eggs. Our standard master carton holds 360 eggs, packed as 12 moulded trays of 30. It is the unit buyers quote volumes in, that container loadability is calculated from, and that labelling and batch coding are applied to.

The carton maths flows directly into container planning: a 40 ft reefer carries approximately 1,312 master cartons (about 472,320 eggs), and a 20 ft reefer approximately 656 cartons (about 236,160 eggs). Cartons are built to seaworthy strength so they stack and travel without crushing, which matters especially on lanes with onward inland distribution. Buyer artwork, grading date and origin marking can be printed on the carton where a retail chain wants its own presentation. Specifying your pack format at the carton level up front keeps every repeat shipment identical and predictable.
